Our long journey
Jidar began as a culture website in 2005. It prioritized publishing for young writers, new writing experiences, marginalized writers, and bloggers who do not have access to reliable publishing outlets.
We presented a pioneering solution at the time, as the cultural publishing sector was controlled by government media and conservative semi-governmental publications. There were always Independent groups of Arabic intellectuals who try to present something new and valuable, despite this, it was stopped due to lack of funding, the cost of paper printing, poor marketing, and the lack of interested parties.
Not to mention the strict censorship that everyone knows, the cultural publishing sector in the Arab world was controlled by groups of writers, akin to mafias. We were pioneers and opened the door for dozens of people to emulate us and establish online cultural publishing websites.
We published new and valuable writings on the internet space to read from anywhere in the world. We reached readers from Trinidad and Tobago, Seychelles, Benin and countries where it is difficult to expect Arabic readers.
As a non-profit firm with the aim of contributing to bringing sober culture to the public debate; We raised the discussion over unreported issues in media and culture such as media promotion of unworthy books and writings. We published content for writers who were publishing for the first time on Jidar and became well-known, and we introduced writers to Arab readers who were unknown to them.
Our standards in publishing were related to the value of the content, regardless of the author’s name, nationality, gender, and regardless of whether this or that government liked our publications. The expected result was that the website was forbidden in a number of Arab countries.
From A culture website to a publishing house
In 2008 Jidar added printed book publishing to its activities and launched an e-newspaper and blogging platform in addition to ebooks. During that period Jidar became an influential firm in the culture sector, digital publishing, and events organizing. Its efficiency created its value and effects as one of the top cultural firms in the Arab world. The firm’s vision and expert team brought deep effects to the culture and digital sector, helped its partners to grow, built sustainable competitive advantage, and drove positive societal impact. The company has been licensed in the Alexandria Free Zone, Egypt.

Lost Everything
Unfortunately, Jidar stopped its activity during the Arab spring. Due to the movement of its team between countries, instability and lack of internet connection sometimes for many reasons that there is no room to explain, we have lost the entire Jidar archive and all technical resources, including our accounts on social media platforms and our subscription to some services due to changes in phone numbers of the founder who was also the technical administrator.
New attempt, but for a refugee it is hard
We reestablish Jidar for Culture and Publishing in Malmo in 2018, However, we faced problems related to the penetration of discrimination in Swedish institutions. It took us about 8 months to obtain the tax number which needs usually 2 hours and opening a bank account took more than six months, which usually takes some days.
Starting from scratch again
Now we have re-established our firm again in Alexandria the city where Jidar began as a publishing house with a new concept. We redesigned the company’s activities to provide publishing services to authors and publishing houses. We are the first company in the Arab world to enter this field, to provide consulting services in the field of book writing, in addition to editing, translation, design, and most importantly marketing services. Providing and creating sustainable solutions for beginners and professional authors.
New business model
We have combined digital publishing and business with the technical services sector because without the latter they cannot flourish. In this sense, we are now a publishing and technology services company that provides sustainable software solutions not only for authors but also for entrepreneurs. And we strive to be pioneers in this sector as well. Purpose-driven, the firm strives to drive a lasting impact on its contributors, clients, and society. “You will be challenged… and rewarded,” say, insiders.
